The Palm Islands is a leisure, residential and tourist development being built in the Arabian Gulf off coast of Dubai . It is designed to resemble a huge palm tree is rising from the seabed off the coast. Each palm is built in the shape of a Palm tree consisting of 17 Fronds and a Trunk along with a protective breakwater.

The Palm Islands , also referred to as The Palm Dubai and The Palms, are the three largest man-made islands in the world, which are being built on the coast of the emirate of Dubai , in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Its concept was announced in May 2002 and the three resort islands are expected to maintain Dubai 's position as a premium tourist destination. The Palm Islands is also the self-declared 'Eighth Wonder of the World'.

The first Palm is being constructed about 25 kms away from Dubai city and the second is almost 15 kms away from Jebel Ali Port to its south. The Palm, once completed, would be the world's biggest ever man-made island and like the Great Wall of China , will be visible from the moon. Each Palm will measure approximately 6 kms in length and 5.5 kms in width and collectively add almost 120 kms of new coastline to Dubai . The protective Breakwater surrounding each Palm will measure approximately 11 kms and be 200 meters in width.
